epic east coast road trip part 1-day three and four

day three we went to church with dave and erica and explored mt. vernon a little bit. the colors were gorgeous but the weather was windy and cold. we also explored arlington national cemetary and watched the changing of the guard. it is always humbling to be in a place where there are so many stories.

we said goodbye to david and erica and headed to our hotel for the night where we just relaxed.

day four, we went back into d.c. and took an official tour of ford's theatre where lincoln was assassinated. they actually still do live performances in the theatre. it was nothing like i expected it to be, but still so cool to see. we walked across the street to the next part of the tour where you could see the room lincoln actually died in. i love those row homes all over dc and to see the house was pretty awesome.

these are probably my favorite set of pictures from the entire trip

after ford's we went and visited the declaration of independence. we lucked out, we didn't have to wait in line and then when we were getting ready to leave ten minutes later there was a huge line. i can't help but to think of national treasure being in that room.

after the archives we headed to the capitol building and took another tour there. it was incredibly fascinating to learn all about our nation's capitol. like did you know the very center of dc is in the capitol building? or that they built a grave for george washington inside and his family didn't want him buried there so there is an empty grave inside? pretty neat. i loved capitol hill.
the center of washington dc and my holey shoe.

after our tour we headed back to our hotel to pick up our rental car, grab our stuff and hit the road for philadelphia. we stopped in maryland and for all you fans of the podcast serial, we may or may not have stalked the school that this story partly takes place in. we also made a little visit to leakin park. afterward we saw deleware and finally made our way to philadelphia just in time to indulge in a real life philly cheesesteak.

there is an age old debate on which place serves the better cheesesteak geno's or pat's, and people will argue like crazy. we chose pat's and it was delicious, but i will let you in on a little secret...you can get a cheesesteak off the street and it would still be delicious.

we took a trip up to my father's office building to catch the view and turned in for the night.
