rach, meg and i took a red eye wednesday night (my favorite flight, truly) and landed bright and early ready for the day. our hotel let us check in at 8 so we napped and then played. first stop, lunch. we were all so hungry by this point. we had the halal guys food truck in it was fantastic. after that we went to herald square-to macy's to try on makeup and play around. did i mention new york was freezing? after that we headed to the garment district for fabric. i am a sucker for fabric and have a hard time any fabric store without purchasing anything. good thing we found some great stuff and we even convinced meghan to start sewing.
after that adventure, we headed to magnolia's bakery for delicious banana pudding and then found some pizza on the way to our broadway show. we saw matthew morrison in one of his final performances in finding neverland. it was incredible. he was fantastic and kelsey grammar was equally as great.
excuse my tacky new york plastic bags, they are full of beautiful fabric and projects
bantam has a map full of people who have visited...there is us from last time(technically from utah)
after chinatown we made our way to the famous purl soho. known for sewing, quilting, knitting and more. it was incredible. we spent hours there and could have probably spent even more time. it was so much fun to hang out there. i came away with way too many sewing projects as well as a new hobby of knitting.
we tried to win the lottery at aladdin that night but failed and so we headed back to grand central for some shake shack and back to the hotel to learn how to knit!
saturday... we woke up to snow, snow and more snow. hello storm jonas. i have always laughed every time the east coast whines about weather because here in utah we get that all the time. however, that was not the case. it was a nightmare to walk in and it was so heavy and wet.
in the morning though, i did decide to try and venture out to win the lottery again. i got there 2 minutes before the deadline and they cancelled it. all that trekking for nothing. i ran to another lottery but did not make it in time and they cancelled that show too! i met back up with meghan at grand central (did i mention how close our hotel was to the that place! location, location location) where we picked up lunch and headed back to our hotel.
we spent the day hanging out. watching tv, knitting, we played some games, we ran around the hotel and went a little stir crazy. they closed most the restaurants in the city and we were lucky that one pizza place was open around the corner of the hotel.
being in the middle of a shut down city was probably one of the neatest experiences of my life. it was empty and so quiet in the city that never sleeps.
have i mentioned rach works for delta and flew standby and all the flights were cancelled (including ours). it was a stressful moment figuring out how she might get home (and us) they rebooked us on a flight monday night, but we had school and work monday. they rebooked us on another flight leaving philadelphia, but they cancelled our amtrak and bus tickets. what a nightmare.
sunday the city awoke and we made up lost time. rach left us to go straight to the airport to try and catch a standby flight (she made it!-7 hours later) while we went and picked up cronuts and frozen smores. later we had pizza, went to macys and back to our hotel to get our stuff and head to the airport. getting there was another fun adventure that took an hour longer than it was supposed to and we got through security just as our flight was boarding.
i can't rotate this but so many cars were buried in the snow
